A grandiose portal fit for a Saudi Arabian giga-project inspired by art, wellness, and the purity of the red sea.
Situated along Saudi Arabia's northwestern coast, Amaala aims to become a sustainable luxury destination, a preservation centre, and an artistic enclave.
PROJECT SETUp
Amaala is one of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 giga-projects—a brand-new luxury and wellness resort set to feature over 2,500 hotel keys and nearly 1,000 residential homes. As a rapidly growing company in its early stages, Amaala required an internal portal to manage daily tasks for each project while fostering a cohesive and efficient way of working for its expanding team.
CHALLENGE AND APPROACH
The challenge was to design and deliver a scalable portal capable of managing the day-to-day operations of a company poised to grow from 250 employees to over 20,000 users. The platform needed to seamlessly support Human Resources, company news, and third-party vendors and suppliers while accommodating a projected 2,525 hotel keys and 835 residential units.
To address this, the team embraced an agile approach, running fast iteration cycles and holding regular stakeholder check-ins to ensure alignment and validate findings. Following best practices, we defined the user experience, identified key pain points with the most significant impact, and established a clear vision and roadmap for future capabilities. This ensured the portal could evolve alongside the company’s rapid expansion and integration with third-party businesses.
Collaboration was key—bringing internal stakeholders together to emphasize the value of co-creation and ensure all departments contributed to a unified, scalable solution.
OUTCOME
What began as a request for “just another intranet portal” evolved into a transformative digital journey for Amaala. Through a holistic approach to design, technology, and research, we created a foundational system that demonstrated the value of a robust digital infrastructure.
The project empowered the main stakeholders to effectively present this vision to the Amaala Board, earning greater respect and autonomy to lead the Technology & Communications department and setting the stage for continued growth and innovation.
“Designit’s team has done a fantastic job in merging very complex business requirements with our core luxury essence, delivering –what I have seen to date, the most appealing intranet portal design ever.”
