Context
Before our engagement, an internal department conducted interviews with staff members from each warehouse to understand their day-to-day challenges.
A prior vendor had attempted to deliver solutions in response to these interviews, however, the client felt the work wasn't up to alleviate any of their pain points.
For this project, we decided to approach a delivery plan that would span a total of 8 weeks divided into 4 sprints to divide each phase of the project and keep a logical and easy-to-follow schedule for the client and all their internal stakeholders.
Challenge
To develop a greenfield digital solution for Hitachi Robotics & AI department to support their warehouses situated all around Japan connecting main cities and rural areas alike.
This would include a full digital transformation called “smart logistics”; a new ecosystem to integrate Artificial intelligence with finance, commerce information & processes, and new added values for its customers.
Approach
Thanks to our multidisciplinary and international team we established an efficient and streamlined workflow that would give us access to the most important content extracted from the client’s documentation daily.
During the alignment phase, we delved deep into their current processes and workflows. We mapped out their current flows and built the improved journey highlighting their challenges, and potential new business opportunities derived from improved decision-making and finally agreed on the scope of the prototype we will deliver.
Outcome
Through an interactive prototype, we created a successful product vision and focused the conversations on their service and the feasibility of the platform rather than the appeal of a new aesthetic we decided to improve their existing UI and not propose a completely new look & feel.
Use cases:
1. What would happen if there were fewer orders than planned arriving that day?
2. What would happen if there was an unexpected problem in the chain?
Next steps
The work was very well received by all users and stakeholders involved and handed over to the development team, who would implement a more advanced version that would connect with their current AI algorithm to further develop their vision.
Along with the prototype we submitted our proposed changes to their current process as measured in an exercise to achieve maximum impact with the least effort, and our recommended next steps for the future of the project.
